After the initial realization of “AAAA, we are already TOO LATE!”, we had to come up with the best idea ever.
As if we needed more inspiration, yesterday brought another adventure after we published our blog post: fireworks suddenly appeared in the neighborhood. That’s when we realized that everyone could benefit from a new mobile application that shows upcoming fireworks in the beautiful city of Passau. We will call it “The Upcoming Fireworks in the Beautiful City of Passau” (Tufitbcop for short).
Just kidding. The (un)expectedness of the aforementioned fireworks was slightly debatable anyway: there were already several people gathered at the best viewing spots, and some had even arrived by car and/or shot their last New Year’s Eve rockets, which must have required at least some sort of organization. This meant that we had to look for better ideas.
Luckily, our brainstorming was not fruitless. For one, we consumed some Johannisbeeren. For two, we came up with several great ideas for winning the Shipaton.
The evergreen idea was to implement mobile support for Whid, the keyboard-first time tracker for macOS. We had already received the requests for this app from several people who didn’t always have a keyboard and a Mac with them, but still wanted to track their meetings and other work-related activities. The only issue was that the Shipaton is aimed at a worldwide audience, while so far, time tracking seemed to mostly capture the hearts of our German friends.
After also throwing away the idea of a bouldering app that would help you solve routes by showing suggested moves and positions (please let us know if you implement it!), we landed in the music industry, and decided on the final theme.
Do you know the feeling of just having the most fantastic, most catchy melody playing in your head all day, only for it to be gone by time you make it home to write it down? Well, we’ve got your back now! (Or in two months, at the latest!)
We will create an application for musicians. The user can whistle a melody, which the app will transcribe into MIDI format. You can then easily export it and use it directly in your favorite DAW, or edit it right on your phone.
